We would rather show you than tell you. Our labels are short on purpose, and a short label is only worth anything if it is true. This page sets out exactly what is certified, who certified it, and what those certificates do and do not cover. Where we cannot prove something, we say so rather than reaching for a nicer word.
Where it is made
Our powders and capsules are made in a facility that holds a current certification to NSF/ANSI 455-2, the American National Standard for Good Manufacturing Practices for dietary supplements.
That standard is audited by NSF International and covers:
- 21 CFR Part 111, current Good Manufacturing Practices for dietary supplements
- 21 CFR Part 117, preventive controls for human food
- 21 CFR Part 11, Part 1.5 Subpart L and Part 1.9 Subpart O
The certification covers powder, capsule and tablet manufacturing, including mixing, dry formulation, encapsulation, tablet compression, coating, packaging, labeling, warehousing and quality unit operations.
The certificate is reissued on the certifier's schedule and we hold a current copy at all times. Our retail partners ask for it every year, and every year we send it.
What this certification is. An independent, audited confirmation that the facility making these products operates to a recognized GMP standard.
What it is not. It is not a certification of any individual product, and we will not describe it as one. Plenty of brands blur that line. We would rather you know the difference.
Our energy bars
Bars and powders are not made on the same equipment, so the bars are made at a separate facility. That facility operates to Good Manufacturing Practices and holds current organic and kosher certification.
The same rule applies there as here. Those certifications cover the facility. The bars themselves do not carry an organic seal or a kosher mark, so we do not describe them as organic or kosher.
Organic certification
Our certified organic products are certified to the USDA organic regulations, 7 CFR Part 205, by Organic Certifiers, Inc., a USDA-accredited certifying agent. That certification is maintained continuously, and the current certificate is on file.
The scope of that certification is handling, which is the correct scope for how these products are blended and packed.
The rule we follow is simple. If a product carries the USDA Organic seal, it is covered by that certification. If it does not carry the seal, it is not certified organic and we do not use the word organic to describe it. There is no third category and no partial wording.
What is tested
Every lot of our powders and capsules is tested before it is released.
That testing happens inside the NSF-certified facility described above, under the same standard. 21 CFR Part 111 requires that the identity of each incoming dietary ingredient is confirmed before it is used, that every finished batch is verified against a written specification, and that the records supporting both are retained. A facility cannot hold NSF/ANSI 455-2 certification without doing all of that and being audited on it.
Certificates of analysis are held for every lot.
What we do not claim
This is the part most brands leave out, so it is worth being direct about.
We do not claim our products are NSF certified. The facility is.
We do not claim a certification covers a product it does not cover.
We do not use seals, shields or awards we cannot produce a current certificate for.
We do not make claims about treating, preventing or curing anything. These products are dietary supplements, and the FDA has not evaluated statements about them.
